Composite Fillings

A composite (tooth-colored) filling restores a tooth that has been damaged by decay, cracks, or fractures. During the procedure, the affected portion of the tooth is carefully removed and the area is filled with a composite material. While composite fillings are durable and can last for many years, they are not permanent and may need to be replaced eventually. These fillings offer reliable, long-lasting results and help maintain a natural, attractive smile.

Common Reasons for Composite Fillings

  • Chipped teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Tooth decay
  • Worn teeth

The Composite Filling Procedure

Composite fillings are typically completed in a single visit. After numbing the tooth, our dental team will remove any decay and thoroughly clean the area. If the decay is close to the nerve, a protective medication may be applied. The composite material is then placed in layers, shaped, and polished to match the tooth’s natural appearance and restore its function.

It’s common to feel some sensitivity to hot or cold after the procedure, but this usually resolves soon as your tooth adjusts to the new filling.

You’ll receive instructions on how to best care for your new filling. Maintaining good oral hygiene, healthy eating habits, and scheduling regular dental checkups will help ensure the longevity of your composite fillings.
